Gentlemen:
Oct. 10, 11, Wed. and Thurs; since most of you are retired or are in very senior positions, this should not be a problem and allows the weekend for visiting elsewhere, attending the Akron game, etc. Also avoids the weekend reservation crunch and extra traffic.
Wed. night: gentlemen’s cocktail party (casual attire), cash bar 7-10 (they have a 3-hr. minimum bartending fee), light supper catered. For companions, the resort has an indoor pool, cocktail lounge, and full-service dining room which is open 5:30-8:30.
Thurs. night: dinner (coat and tie) with cash bar (as above) for couples. No formal program or entertainment is planned for either night, so as to allow plenty of time for reminiscing and renewing old acquaintances. I am, however, inviting Chris Maraschiello, the Chapter Adviser, plus 2 senior officers, and their companions to be our guests at the formal dinner.
Venue: State Lodge at Hueston Woods. Not as convenient as the Miami Inn, but they do have a fairly decent restaurant, catering facilities, and may be a better choice for a large (we hope) group. For those of you who have not been back, with quadrupled enrollment and apparently unrestricted use of cars, Oxford is no longer a quiet little town, but a very congested one.
Cost, including supper for 1 on Wed. and for 2 on Thurs. is $225. This includes cost of banquet rooms, bartenders and other overhead, plus a $100 donation to the Chapter. I suspect that most of us (myself included) have been remiss on this, and if a sizable group turns out, it would be a significant contribution.
Room rate has been quoted at $111.69, including tax, and I have on hold a block of 30 rooms. You will each be responsible for booking and paying for your own room via OH State reservation system (800-282-7275) under "Delta Upsilon Fraternity, Reservation Group #892146." Be sure to check cancellation policy when you book. I suggest that you do this pronto; I may be able to secure additional rooms, if there is a large turnout, but you might end up staying somewhere else.
To register, please send a check in the amount of $225, payable to W. F. B., by Apr. 15 (easy to remember); this will be refundable until Sep. 1.
There will be no further mass mail-out on this, but I should appreciate a reply whether or not you plan to attend. If you do, please advise companion’s name so that I can prepare a list of participants for distribution upon arrival. If you have questions, feel free to contact me at the above; same if you wish to send any greetings, etc. to the group. Hof and I are hoping for a good turnout, and Sam Heyburn’s check is in hand, so there will be a reunion if it is just the 3 of us. Cliff Hanson, Barry Erickson, and Walt Sachwitz have said they will attend, so we are off to a good start.
Warmest regards,
Bill Bishop
